2011 – carpet
This installation is a scaled down topographical landscape made entirely from residential carpet. A section of Hopkinsville, Kentucky (the town where I am from) was taken from United States Geological Survey maps and translated into separate levels of carpet. In this version the installation is taking up one room of a house. However, this project is eventually intended to inhabit an entire house, allowing the viewer to traverse a landscape while walking throughout their home. This work attempts to alter our perception of surface and locomotion by creating an experience that is intentionally in opposition of the interior, domestic experience.
